Baby Animals Baby Shower Cake

This is a baby shower cake I did for this weekend. Top tier is yellow cake with chocolate filling, and bottom tier is white cake with vanilla buttercream filling. This was my first attempt at making fondant animals, and I learned a ton while having a blast watching these little guys come to life! Thanks, Mary for asking me to so this cake!

I have to give credit to We Take the Cake for the cake design - I made a few modifications and did my best. Go take a look at her stuff - her work is amazing!

Just for Fun Cupcakes

Since I have been gone for a few weeks and cake orders in the summer have slowed down, I was itching to bake! So I use my Jr. High girls, that I work with at church, as motivation to get the powdered sugar flowing. My house was this week's place for our Bible study so I wanted to give cupcakes a whirl.

I made confetti cupcakes with French vanilla cake batter and colored sugar sprinkles. The icing is regular buttercream tinted a "oh so girly" pink with edible shimmer, and a fondant flower to top it off. I thought they turned out pretty cute for a last minute, thrown together dessert and they were pretty tasty too!

40th Wedding Anniversary Cake

This weekend was my parent's 40th wedding anniversary! Dad wanted to surprise mom with a fun party with friends and family - so he called me early in the week and asked me, "can you just build me a cake?" He didn't care what was on it or what it looked like so I took this opportunity to try some new things!

I have been wanting to try royal icing accents - I made a ton of pieces and almost all of them broke when I tried to attach them to the cake! I learned a lot about what works and what doesn't (mostly what doesn't!)

Bottom tier was white wedding cake with white buttercream filling, middle was yellow cake with raspberry filling, and top was chocolate cake with chocolate filling.

Garden Party Cake

My good friend is a member of a garden club in the area, and requested a "garden" themed cake for their get together tomorrow. She gave me free reign to do whatever I wanted....scary I know! But this is what I wanted!

Top tier is chocolate cake with peanut butter cream filling, middle is white cake with vanilla buttercream (tinted sky blue). and the bottom is yellow cake with chocolate buttercream filling. I'm getting hungry just writing this down!

Happy Mother's Day!

Here's another fun cake from this weekend - needless to say my kitchen is a mess! A girl I work with asked for a cake that was not too fun, and not too pretty but a little bit of both - I hope she likes my idea for her request! I love this cake - it's just so cute! The top tier is yellow cake with chocolate buttercream filling and the bottom tier is chocolate cake with white buttercream icing. Yummy!

Nursing School Graduation Cake

This is a cake I did this weekend for a friend of mine whose niece is graduating from nursing school! I am so happy about the way this cake turned out and my friend seemed pleased, too! It is a strawberry cake with chocolate filling - I made the cupcakes with little nurses caps on them for some extra cake since the party got a little bit bigger than expected!

Brett's Birthday Cake

This was my first attempt at using fondant. It was for my niece's 13th birthday party! The top tier was chocolate cake with strawberry filling, and the bottom layer was yellow cake with chocolate filling.

Mimi'S 90th Birthday

I did this cake for my sister-in-law grandmother's 90th birthday party. They said they wanted pretty instead of fun so I decided this would be a great time to try my hand at gumpaste roses. I haven't had a class on this - just read about it in a book so the learning curve was straight up, but I am very pleased with the way they turned out.

Usually my fondant is smoother than this - I tried a new kind and did not like the way it performed! I think I'll stick with my old recipe from now on and not have bubbles!! I think this one tastes a little bit better, but the taste isn't worth the "bumpiness" on that top layer - oh well - that's why I try new things out on family :)

The top tier was chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling - bottom tier was white cake with pink buttercream filling to match the ribbons.

Beth's Birthday!

This was a fun cake for my niece's birthday. She is a drama queen so I needed something dramatic for her! It was my first time working with wires and the pattern imprint board - I learned a lot and she was happy! She was so cute - after we took pictures she went to her room and came out wearing an outfit to match - purple pj's!

The cake was chocolate with chocolate buttercream filling, and covered in fondant with fondant fun balls! She had requested "balls" like Duff (Ace of Cakes) has on his cakes - I tried!

Police Badge Cake

I made the cake in a huge hurry! I got word a good friend got into the Police Academy and there was a party that same night - ahh! My sweet husband actually iced it for me and tinted the icing - what a guy! Not my best work ever, but she loved it, and it tasted yummy!

Dallas Cowboys Cake

I made this for the Super Bowl party - I just couldn't bring myself to make a cake for the teams that were in the game! So Da Boys got this Maybe Next Year cake.

Princess Cake

Happy 3rd Birthday, Sydney!

A friend asked me to make a princess cake for her daughter's birthday party. I haven't made many buttercream cakes, and thought this would be a good chance to practice!

This cake is white with pink buttercream filling. There were cupcakes in white and chocolate cake so everyone could have what they wanted. The boys even got froggies in stead of princesses!
